Get Schooled is an education-focused, nonprofit organization founded by Viacom and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Viacom through its cable program network propoerties (i.e., BET, CMT, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Spke, TV Land and VH1) know how to successfuly deliver the critical messages about the importance of graduating from high school and going onto college using its powerful media assets, technology and messengers that matter to youth.
Viacom has more than two decades of combiined leadership and experience in the education reform movement and in the media world. The Get Schooled corporate-wide pro-social initiative sets out to improve graduation rates. The initiative focuses on three key areas that the evidence suggests are most critical to student success: attendance, course passage, and navigating the maze between high school and college. The campaign focuses on building a foundation to inspire youth, their families and teachers to take ownership of imporving education outcomes for every student. A few key initiatives for 2011 include: Get Schooled Challenges, WakeUp! NYC, College Affordability Challenge, Social Media and Gaming and Content Connects.
